Here is how the OLP works:
As new webmasters join the OLP, they are divided equally into 3 groups. We will call them Group A, Group B, and Group C. You will automatically be assigned to a group when you register.
The concept is simple. In order to avoid reciprocal links, Group A will link to sites in Group B, Group B will link to sites in Group C, and Group C will link to sites in Group A! NO RECPROCAL LINKS!
However, as you probably know, you don't want your incoming links to build too quickly. That could throw up a red flag for the search engines. One way to help keep the growth slow is to categorize every site. This actually serves two purposes. First of all, your inbound links will be relevant. There seems to be some disagreement on whether or not this is really a factor for your search engine rankings. Going by what Google has said, we tend to agree that the links should be relevant. (See HERE!)
Through categorizing, your site will only show outgoing relevant links, and incoming links will also be relevant. This helps to throttle the growth of your incoming links because you are not receiving the massive batch of incoming links from the entire database, but only those in the same category.
All sites are manually approved by our editors. When a category is filling up too quickly, that category will close. Sites will remain in queue until the category is released again.
Requirements:
As the OLP list will be in constant growth, that means your link page will have to be updated dynamically from our server. While we can use javascript to accomplish this, javascript does not parse the content into your site. No content means no links being seen by the search engine. Therefore, we have chosen PHP as our language. You will use a PHP include to call the links page into your page. PHP is translated into HTML content and, therefore, will count as content on your page.
So, in order to participate in the OLP, your host must support PHP.
You will be required to have a link from your home page that points to your links page. This ensures that the search engine spiders follow a link to your links page.
The OLP crawls all sites in the database on a monthly basis to make sure this link appears and your links page exists. If the crawler does not find the required links, your account will be deactivated. You will be notified by email and will have the opportunity to fix the problem and reactivate your account.
The following types of web sites will not be approved for the OLP:
The OLP reserves the right to remove any other sites deemed inappropriate.
Multilevel/Network Marketing sites that are real, legitimate companies are permitted. However, search engines don't look favorably on mirror sites and you would be defeating the purpose of this site by using a mirror site. To be clear, a mirror site is a duplicate site that is given to members of a particular program. All members would have the same or similar site with a few variables, such as your name and phone number, changed. Additionally, remember that we require a link on your home page to the links page, so you must be able to access your pages and edit them. We highly recommend that you use your own splash page.
